Project Description: Together with the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, researchers at NOAA Fisheries Northeast Fisheries Science Center carried out acoustic research to examine the soundscapes of four relatively shallow U.S. National Marine Sanctuaries on the east coast and in the Gulf of Mexico from 2016-2018. As part of this project, the researchers seasonally deployed hydrophone recorders on mooring lines equipped with VR2AR acoustic releases in Stellwagen Bank. Two sites were maintained throughout the study within Stellwagen Bank. No animals were tagged as part of this work. Thus, all detections were of opportunity and hopefully will contribute valuable information to other researchers.
