Project Description: Researchers at Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences have maintained an acoustic receiver array network in the New York Bight for the last decade. This project is intended for tracking seasonal movements, habitat usage, trends in northern movement of southern species and the seasonal patterns in the diversity of finfish and sharks in the region. A total of 49 receivers are maintained annually along the south shore of Long Island. The acoustic network has been funded by various sources including NOAA and is presently funded by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).
