Project Description: Beginning in 2015, MADMF started using acoustic telemetry to investigate habitat use, restoration potential and impairments, and movement ecology of American shad, Alewife, and Blueback Herring in Massachusetts waters. From 2015-2017, DMF and USFWS tagged and monitored American Shad in the Charles River. In 2018 and 2021, MADMF and USFWS tagged and released spawning Alewife into currently inaccessible habitat in the Concord and Sudbury Rivers. In 2019, MADMF and MIT-SeaGrant tagged spawning Blueback Herring in the Mystic River. In 2023, MADMF tagged spawning river herring in the Mystic River.
