Project Description: The Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR) Passive Acoustics Program consists of multiple passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) projects. Currently, we have 26 PAM sites. At each PAM site is a subsurface mooring that includes an acoustic recorder (Ocean Instruments Soundtrap; ST600) and an Innovasea Vemco VR2AR acoustic receiver/release. The primary purpose of the PAM projects is detecting North Atlantic right whales and other baleen whales within the Gulf of Maine (GoM). The network of PAM sites also serves as a platform of opportunity for acoustic telemetry studies, not only within DMR, but for the GoM region. Maine is happy to engage in these data-sharing efforts.
