Project Description: Our research examines the migration of striped bass, and how physiology and behavior change rhythmically over the migratory cycle. The work occurs in a Massachusetts saltwater pond. We seek to characterize the spatial navigation abilities and rhythmic behavior of striped bass over the migratory cycle. We have been using VEMCO passive acoustic telemetry to collect data on the behavior of striped bass that congregate in Eel Pond (Woods Hole, MA) during the summer. This pond is small (250-300 m diameter) and has restricted access and egress via a narrow channel. Receivers are located in the pond and in a nearby harbor to detect summer residents as they arrive and depart.
