Project Description: In response to strong recreational angler interest in holdover Striped Bass in the Narrow River estuary RI DMF has initiated a tagging study. Recent years have seen an increased interest from recreational anglers in holdover/resident striped bass fishing. This has likely already increased fishing pressure on a subpopulation of striped bass we know little about. In addition, it is possible that the prevalence and abundance of holdover/resident striped bass may increase in future years as winter water temperatures warm. Results of this research provide information on the inter-seasonal and interannual movements of resident/holdover striped bass.

Objectives:

Track returns to natal estuaries
Determine winter within-estuary movements

Management Benefits:

Aid in state management of Striped Bass populations
